"My family thoroughly enjoys feeding the ducks and turtles at several of the ponds in Avalon. On many occasions we have noticed fish hooks that have been left behind by people fishing, bread ties left behind by people feeding the ducks and turtles, as well as plastic bags and containers. These items are harmful to the animals that live at the ponds. Please everyone make sure you pick up behind yourself when leaving the ponds so that the animals are not injured. Thank you."
"There are people feeding the bears by the pool if this continues then DNR will come out and shoot the bears. Please don't feed the wild animals. Thank You" "If anyone has any information on the car that ran over the black duck in the road this past week please let me know Phil Costantini 843 602 0025"
"No Mr. Potter, nothing on Copper Creek Court, that I am aware of being stolen. But, as always, will keep a lookout. Sorry to hear about this"
"There is an obvious theft problem going on in Avalon and it appears to be getting worse. On my street alone (Bittersweet Lane) we have had 3 homes have their solar lights stolen, myself included. I just found out yesterday that another home on this street had a nice piece of yard decor stolen this past weekend. Its obvious that this is being done by some youth in this community. I say this because these occurrences are talking place on weekend nights when they are allowed to prowl the streets until late. Our lights were stolen during Spring Break, again when these kids are allowed out late at night. I was told to "inform" security of this issue. As far as I am concerned nothing is being taken seriously here. We spend our hard earned money to make our yards nice and for what? So we can have our items stolen! My neighbors and I are very upset and would like to know if anyone else in this community is having similar problems."
"Lisa, there is no double standard. The Avalon flag pole at the entrance was professionally installed and follows all protocols of U.S. Code Title 4. There is no way to ensure that a homeowner would correctly install a new flagpole and that is where some of the concerns come from. The entrance flag is located on common ground and therefore does not require approval from the ARB under section 6.2 of the Avalon Covenants and Restrictions, whereas the owner of a lot would require approval from the ARB prior to making any exterior changes to the home or installing a structure. Also, the association was not who installed the flagpole at the entrance, it was the builder prior to the first house being built. The Avalon Board of Directors and the Avalon Advisory Committee did not arbitrarily just decide not to allow flagpoles. There was a lot of discussions and the pros vs. cons were weighed. In the end, there was far more cons than pros. Homeowners are allowed (and encouraged) to fly the American flag. When the board and advisory committee discuss decisions, we have to consider what is best for the entire community, not just ourselves. I find it very ironic that when we asked all Avalon homeowners to vote on whether they wanted fireworks banned you responded "Although I agree fireworks are unsafe - I don't feel anyone has the right to govern us. I am voting no on principle". Why are you so against making Avalon safer?" "I would like to say that The Avalon Association has double standards. How can the HOA tell someone to take down a flag pole, when the Association put one in the entrance way? Shouldn't the HOA therefore take down the flag pole as well. As far as I can see it, the flagpole in the entrance way causes more of a threat of danger than the one in the back yard facing the forest. I guess the HOA can fly the American Flag, but Veterans and all other Americans cannot display the American Flag in the same manner. Any comments on that HOA?" "The Carolina Forest Lions Club is sponsoring a Food Drive during the month of March and it is to benefit Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach. Helping Hand is servicing many families in the Carolina Forest area. Donations of non-perishable food, large diapers, and toiletries are being accepted at the following locations in Carolina Forest: Horry County State Bank, Plantation Storage, First Citizens, and Carolina First. The economy is catching up with everybody and we want to do something to help our own community and our own neighbors." "My name is Vince DiMauro and although I recently moved into my house in Avalon, I had rented another house here in Avalon prior to this purchase. On Tuesday January 20, two items were stolen out of my "rental" garage on Bittersweet Lane. These items were a scuba diving spear gun and a men's black and yellow Panasonic street racing bike. This bike has black discs in the wheels. Phillips Realty gave out my house key prior to my termination day to various sub contractors, realtors and whomever else. Unfortunately, I was not through moving out my belongings. If someone should happen to see this extremely rare custom bike perhaps around Avalon, kindly call me. Excalibur and Horry County police were both notified. Thank you. Vince DiMauro 855-4510"
"1/15/09 – Approximately 7:00 AM, this morning there was yet another, (almost to the exact spot) where another accident occurred a year or so ago. This time as last, we have someone speeding at a high rate of speed thru Avalon. We can all be thankful that the morning school buses had already arrived & left with all of the schoolchildren that might have been in the path of this vehicle. What can be done with the speeding? The stop signs helped to a point. But as stated in a previous message to this site, the Horry County & SC State Police can’t be everywhere when needed. On the subject of actually stopping at the stop signs to actually have an effect on us all. It only takes a brief moment to come to a complete stop. Then proceed on your way. First hand experience that I would relate to this was when my ex-spouse was traveling on a community road as ours. Someone ran a stop sign which then her car collided with his. The driver didn’t survive. A FIVE second complete stop may save your life. You never know." |
